MAWAQIT Alternatives: When You Need More Than Mosque Times

MAWAQIT is excellent and free for mosque prayer times. Here is what to use alongside or instead of it when you also want to read the Quran daily, find the Qibla while travelling or build a habit.

In short

Keep MAWAQIT for your mosque's jamaah times — nothing replaces it there, and it is free and ad-free. Add Tariq for everything MAWAQIT deliberately doesn't do: reading the Quran with translation, transliteration and tafsir, duas and hadith, and a daily streak. Most people don't replace MAWAQIT; they pair it.

MAWAQIT's real advantage

Every other app on this page calculates prayer times from the sun's position. MAWAQIT shows what your mosque actually announced, which is not the same number — mosques round, adjust for the congregation and set iqamah a fixed interval after the adhan. If you pray in jamaah, the calculated time is the wrong time.

It is also free with no ads and run as a community project. There is no version of this comparison where MAWAQIT comes out badly.

What it intentionally leaves out

MAWAQIT is not trying to be a Quran app. There is no reading experience with translation and tafsir, no duas or hadith collection, and nothing to track a habit with. That is a design decision, not an oversight.

It also assumes you have a mosque. Travel somewhere your mosque isn't listed and you are back to needing a calculated time and a Qibla compass.

What to pair it with

Tariq covers the other half: the full Quran with translation, transliteration and verse-by-verse tafsir, prayer times and Qibla wherever you are, duas and a daily hadith, and a streak with small daily actions that keeps the habit alive between Fridays.

Run both. Use MAWAQIT to know when your mosque prays, and Tariq for the twenty-three hours around it.

Common questions

Is MAWAQIT really free?

Yes — it is free, carries no ads and is run as a community project serving mosques. That is worth saying plainly on a page that also recommends a paid-tier app.
