Gratitude is a form of worship
In the Quran, gratitude (shukr) is far more than good manners — it is an act of worship and the natural response of a believing heart. To be grateful is to recognise that every blessing, large or small, comes from Allah. These verses show why thankfulness sits at the centre of faith.
Gratitude increases what you have
This famous verse contains a divine promise: gratitude is not just polite, it is generative. Thankfulness for what you already have becomes the doorway to more, while ingratitude closes it.
“And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed: 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you; but if you deny, indeed My punishment is severe.'”
Remember Him and He remembers you
Gratitude and remembrance are linked. When you thank Allah and keep Him in mind, He keeps you in His care. It is one of the most intimate promises in the Quran.
“So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.”
His blessings are beyond counting
A powerful cure for discontent: if you tried to number Allah's favours upon you, you could never finish. This verse invites you to look again at what you overlook every day.
“And if you tried to count the favours of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
